In 1950, in the town of Paterdoro there was a young girl, known for her long red hair which everyone called “disconsoled”, because her beautiful boyfriend, colonel of the Italian army, went to war and never came back. People of the country tried to comfort the young girl. Some gave her a gift, bunches of fresh flowers just collected in the field, some gave her baskets of wild strawberries, to make her smile. Nothing consoled her and the beautiful young girl, and as long as time passed by. She was given the name of “disconsoled”. This name made her even more unhappy, so much that she retired in her country house with no more willing to go to the village. She spent her day reading for long time and cleaning the house. The few times she went out to the meadows, she burst out crying in memory of her last meeting with her beautiful boyfriend. One day, her father, with the intent to get her out, her father asked her to go and help him in the vineyard, to harvest the ripe grapes. Disconsoled didn’t want to, but she gave up, due to the incessive request of her father. In the vineyard, disconsoled observed the purple, turgid, dewy berries, shining under the sun…. She looked at the beauty of the bunches and the spectacular landscape that revealed to her. All this made her smile, after such a long time. And just like that, disconsoled understood that life runs and continuously self-regenerates, like nature. She understood that she couldn’t just stand by, and she had to continue to believe and dream. After that day in the vineyard, her attitude towards life changed. She started to go to the village often, but always with a beautiful smile on her radiant face. She was no longer disconsoled, but a happy girl. Before returning home, she passed by the vineyard to enjoy, enchanted, the strength through which nature gave its fruits every year and she smiled….and smiled..she was no longer the disconsoled girl of a time, now she was a consoled beauty.
